A three-day Jazz & Blues Festival Dhaka 2015 will be held at the Army Museum grounds from November 5-7, and will be headlined by British guitarist-composer John McLaughlin, accompanied by his power trio “The 4th Dimension.”
In a career spanning more than 50 years, McLaughlin has always gone his own way. Working across a range of genres like post-bop, R & B, psychedelic rock, global traditions such as flamenco, gypsy jazz and Indian ragas; he has pushed boundaries, creating new forms, constantly evolving and growing.
A-list praise for his playing style, a fast-pace mix of sharp technique and harmonic smarts, spread. “He operates a guitar as if it was a machinegun,” reckoned Frank Zappa. In 2010, Jeff Beck declared him “the best guitarist alive.” But it was McLaughlin’s 70s electric five-piece Mahavishnu Orchestra that really gave him the guitar-god status.
McLaughlin will be joined by King Baby (USA), Soulmate (India), Esdras Nogueira Quartet (Brazil), China Moses (France), Louis Banks (India), Vasundhara Vidalur (India), along with local artistes including Ayub Bachchu’s AB Blues, cellist Razef Khan, The Blues Brothers and the young group of Imran Ahmed Quintet. The performances will begin every day at 6pm and will continue till midnight.
