A local court here has framed the charges brought against 13 people for brutally killing minor boy Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon two and a half months ago.
Sylhet Metropolitan Session Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha's court made the charge framing order on Tuesday, clearing path for the start of the trial in the lawsuit.
When asked, local public prosecutor advocate Mafur Ali acknowledged it to the Dhaka Tribune and said ten of the accused were present during the charge frame hearing while the rest three remained absconding.
The trio are Kamrul Islam who arrested in the KSA four days after the incident, his brother Shamim Alam and Pavel Islam, from Dirai upazila.
The ten others accused are Muhit Alam, 32, his brother Ali Haider alias Ali, 34, Moina Miah alias Baro Moina, 45, Noor Ahmed alias Noor Miah, 20, Dulal Ahmed, 30, Aiyas Ali, 45, Tajuddin Badol, 28, Firuj Miah, 50, Asmat Ali, 42, and Ruhul Amin, 25.
Of them, eight accused except Tajuddin Badol and Ruhul Amin, meanwhile, have given confessional statement in the heinous murder to the court.
Earlier on September 7, Sylhet Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sahedul Karim shifted the case to the present court and its first hearing was started on September 16.
On August 16, the investigation office of the case submitted the charge sheet and the court on August 24 ordered to seize the belongings of the three wanted.
The ill-fated 13-year-old boy, Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, was tortured to death by a group of persons at Kumargaon on the outskirts of Sylhet city around 7:30am on July 8.
A 28-minute video, recorded on a mobile phone camera, shows the victim tied to a pole in front of a workshop in the still-closed Sultan Ali Market, beside the Dhaka-Sunamganj road. From the video, it seemed there were five to six men who took part in the barbaric torture.
A murder case was registered in this regard by Jalalabad police, in which Rajon’s father later became a plaintiff and one namely Muhit was listed as the prime accused in the case.
