Four policemen were killed and eight others injured when a train rammed a police van at Gola Hat Colony level crossing in Saidpur upazila of the district on Friday night.
The dead were identified as Maidul Islam, 26, Shamsul Islam, 55, Shariful Islam, 36, Faruk Hossain, 39, all constables of Saidpur police station.
Tanzilur Rahman, superintendent of Railway Police, said the accident took place around 11pm when the Dhaka-bound Neel Sagar Express hit a police on the level crossing, leaving Shamsul dead on the spot and eleven others injured.
On information, a team of Nilphamari police and a fire fighting unit rushed to the spot and rescued the injured. At first, the injured were admitted to Sayedpur 100-bed hospital.
As their condition was critical, they were referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Shariful and Maidul died on the way to the hospital and Faruk died in the hospital on Saturday morning.
