Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is going to launch a countrywide survey to monitor the speed of mobile internet from today to measure the quality of data services.
Three teams comprising 5 members each will conduct this survey in 45 Upazilas under 15 selective districts. Representatives from the top three mobile operators will accompany the BTRC team.
After getting lot of complaints for low-speed from the subscribers, especially in rural areas, the regulatory body planned to conduct this kind of survey to see the real picture on ground.
The survey will be conducted in every three upazilas of the 15 selected districts to know the actual status of internet speed.
During the first phase of the survey, the teams will start working in Khulna, Bogra and Habiganj districts and the work will continue till September.
An official of the regulatory body said, based on the survey reports, BTRC would soon introduce a ranking of internet services quality.
Due to increasing call drops, poor networks coverage and unsatisfactory customer support, the regulatory body had issued a quality service directive last year.
Despite those initiatives from the BTRC, mobile operators didn’t take any effective measures to improve their respective services.
