With deepest homage and humble gratitude, the people of port city Chittagong recalled the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahman by paying rich tribute on Saturday.
Marking the 40th death anniversary of the founder of independent Bangladesh different socio-cultural organizations and political parties have organised day-long elaborate programmes in the city and elsewhere of the district.
Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc paid his tribute at the portrait of Bangabandhu by placing flower wreaths at Raozan College premises of Raozan upazila in the morning. Parliamentary Standing Committee for Railway Ministry head ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury was also present during the programme.
Earlier in the morning, leaders and activists of metropolitan Awami League (AL) paid their homage led by its president ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury and general secretary AJM Nasir Uddin, also the mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC), at the portrait of Father of the Nation in their party office in city’s Darul Fazal market.
Also, the ruling party’s front and associates bodies including Chhatra League, Jubo League also marked the day by holding discussions and other programmes.
Besides, Chittagong Metropolitan Police, District Commissioner, Fire Service and Civil Defense, Mukitjoddha Sangsad, Chittagong unit among different other organizations paid their tribute to Bangabandhu.
Specials prayers were offered at the different places in the city seeking the eternal peace of Bangabandhu and his family members.
Chittagong University, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Science University (CVASU) also marked the day at their campus.
In Chittagong University, a mourning procession was brought out from the Shahid Miner area of the campus and ended at the Bangabandu Chattar parading around the campus. The vice-chancellor Professor Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury paid his homage to Bangabandhu.
