Nation mourning Bangabandhu
The 40th death anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is being observed across the country with due solemnity and in a befitting manner. Besides the Awami League and its affiliated organisations, many other organisations have taken preparations to observe the National Mourning Day in the capital as well as in other parts of the country.
President, PM pay homage to Bangabandhu
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have paid homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the occasion of the National Mourning Day. They paid the homage by placing floral wreaths at the portrait of the great leader in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi Road No 32 in the capital.
5 killed in Rangamati 'gunfight'
Five persons have been killed in a “gunfight” with the members of Bangladesh Army in Rangamati’s Baghachharhi Upazila. The Army members claimed that the deceased were the members of Jana Sanghati Samity (JSS) faction while the JSS denied the claim.
Kazi Nabil: Bangabandhu never bowed to injustice
Awami League Lawmaker Kazi Nabil Ahmed has said Bangabandhu never bowed before any act of injustice even after being jailed for 13 years. He said: “He sacrificed his own happiness for freedom of the Nation. However, he never compromised with any evil force.”
Four policemen killed as train hits van
Four members of police have been killed when a train hit a police van at Dhelapir rail crossing under Syedpur upazila in Nilpahamari. The deceased are Syedpur police station constables Shamsul Haque, Maidul Islam, Shariful Islam and Faruk Hossain.
Bombs hurled at state minister Shahriar's car
Unknown miscreants have hurled two crude bombs at the parked car of State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam in Rajshahi's Charghat area. Police said both the bombs exploded beside the state minister’s car parked in front of the conference room of Sardaha Degree College while the he was holding a meeting with the college authorities.
Two women run over by truck in Jessore
Two women have been run over by a truck on Jhikargacha-Bakra road under Jhikargacha upazilain Jessore. The deceased are Sakhina Khatun, 55, and Kohinur Begum, 60. Shiorda police outpost In-Charge SI Sirajul Islam said the driver of the truck lost control over the steering and then hit and run over the duo around 9am Saturday.
