Joy: We don't want to jeopardise blogger murder probes

Update : 13 Aug 2015, 05:49 AM

The government has not disclosed much information on the developments on the probe of blogger killings as it does not want to jeopardise the investigations, prime minister's ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy has said.

The prime minister's son made the statement in a status on his official Facebook page posted on Thursday.

"We have made a few arrests and the investigations are ongoing. We have not disclosed too much information because we do not want to jeopardise the investigations," Joy writes.

Terming the people who demand immediate arrests as ignorant fools, Joy said: "Who are we supposed to arrest? We cannot just arrest anyone at random. We have to arrest the killers. Our investigations are leading us to them and we will arrest them as we locate them."

Addressing the people who blame the government for not doing anything over the killings, Joy asked them to inform police if they know the whereabouts of the killers. "But if you don’t know who and where they are, leave the job up to the professionals."

Joy stated that the government has made arrests on a monthly basis of terrorists with weapons and explosives adding that those were all plots to undertake mass killings which the law enforcement agencies thwarted.

He wrote: "Without the Awami League Government in power, hundreds perhaps even thousands would have been killed by now, not just four bloggers. In fact, it is because of the success of our fight against terrorism that these blogger killings happened. The terrorists have been unable to carry out mass attacks so they resorted to individual attacks."

He questioned: "So to those fools criticizing the Awami League Government, what will happen to you if you drag the Awami League Government down? Who is going to save you from the terrorists then?"
