World’s premier all-rounder Shakib al Hasan believes Bangladesh are heading in the right direction in the Test arena and it is only a matter of time before the Tigers become tough competitors in the longer version. The 28-year old said this while being unveiled as the brand ambassador of Lenovo in a press conference yesterday.
“I think we are in the right track and the way we have been performing in the ODIs, we were unable to repeat it in Test cricket. But I think if rain did not affect the game we could have observed many things as to how we improved in the longer version after the success in the one-dayers. We are getting the feeling that we are improving but we need to prove that in terms of getting results. Just like ODI cricket, I think we will get the results in Test cricket as well whenever we play in future,” said Shakib, who will be leaving for the USA today for a 16-day vacation.
Australia, who are scheduled to tour Bangladesh next month, are currently getting battered by England in the Ashes. Defeated 3-1 with the Oval Test still remaining, Aussie skipper Michael Clarke has already announced that he would step down from his job and Steven Smith is likely to be named as the new captain. Shakib termed Clarke as a great leader and said his classy batting will be missed by the world.
“First of all he is a great leader, a great cricketer and a very good human being. Obviously world cricket will miss him along with the other great players who have retired recently. He is among the all-time best batsmen Australia have ever produced and his records speak for themselves,” Shakib added.
