Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of Muslims which also marks the end of Ramadan fasting, has been celebrated across the country on Saturday amid religious fervour and much enthusiasm.
Thousands of Muslims offered prayers seeking divine blessings. Ignoring rains and drizzling, the devotees took part in the Eid prayers, mostly in nearby mosques in cities and towns.
The main Eid congregation was held at the National Eidgah near the High Court in Dhaka at 8:30am on Saturday.
President, Deputy Speaker, Supreme Court judges, cabinet members, whips of Jatiya Sangsad, members of parliament, and diplomats of different Muslim countries, high officials and distinguished citizens offered their Eid prayers at the Jatiya Eidgah.
The biggest Eid jamaat was held at 10am at Sholakia Eidgah of Kishoreganj district.
Moreover, a total of 379 Eid jamaats (congregations) will be held in the capital Dhaka under the supervision of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
Besides, five Eid jamaats were held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque like the previous years.
The first jamaat was held at 7am, the second at 8am, the third at 9am, the fourth at 10am and the fifth was held at 11:00am.
One Eid jamaat was held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 8am.
DSCC and DNCC sources said both the corporations held four Eid-ul-Fitr jamaats in every ward of the Dhaka city.
Two Eid jamaats were organised at Dhaka University Central Mosque. The first jamaat was held at 8am and the second at 9am.
