SQ Chowdhury's appeal verdict July 29

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has fixed July 29 for delivering its verdict on an appeal filed by BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, challenging his death penalty.

The four-member Appellate Division bench fixed the date on Tuesday afternoon.

The Supreme Court begun hearing on Salauddin's appeal against on June 16.

On October 1, 2013, The ICT-1 found Salauddin guilty of nine of the 23 charges of committing crimes against humanity during Liberation War of 1971. It awarded him death penalty four charges, 20 years in jail for three charges and five years in jail for two other charges.

Salahuddin appealed to the SC against the verdict seeking acquittal of all charges on October 29, 2013.

During the argument yesterday, Shahjahan told the court that most of the prosecution witnesses are not eye witnesses. They did not see him being involved in any kind of act of crimes against humanity. They gave hear-say statement before the ICT-1.
