Chief justice for digitised judiciary

Update : 04 Jul 2015, 02:16 PM

ICT should be incorporated in the judicial system to remove case backlog, Chief Justice (CJ) Surendra Kumar Sinha has said.

He said this in a workshop on "Digitisation of Bangladesh Judiciary" at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital on Saturday.

The ICT infrastructure has to be developed for the judiciary to help remove case backlog by expediting disposal of pending cases, said the chief justice.

The chief justice stressed the need for developing court-friendly software taking coordinated programmes for all courts of the country to make judiciary time-befitting.

He said like any other public institutions, the judiciary can be subjected to fair criticism if and when occasion demands.

But if the criticism is illegitimate and irresponsible, it may lead to immeasurable harm to the institution of the judiciary, he added.

Bangladesh Supreme Court and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) jointly organised the workshop.

Judges of the Appellate and High Court Divisions of Bangladesh Supreme Court, senior officials of different ministries and organisations, among others, were also present on the occasion.
