BBC Media Action Bangladesh is all set to bring back its acclaimed family drama series Ujan Ganger Naiya to TV on June 23. The first series of the drama reached over 35 million people last year via airing on the government-owned channel BTV. This time the show moved to a private channel, ATN Bangla, seemingly to take hold of more of an urban audience.
This year, the series is returning with messages on serious issues like maternal and newborn health.
To mark its launch, a premiere show of the second series of the television drama serial was held yesterday at the Bangladesh Film Development corporation. Cast and crew of the drama, representatives of ATN Bangla, DFID-Bangladesh and the Country Director of BBC Media Action, Bangladesh were all present.
The story of the second season is set in a coastal village and depicts dramatic family lives in a fishing community effected by crime, love and the daily struggles.
The cast of the drama includes Riaz, Farhana Mili, Champa, Tariq Anam Khan, Lutfur Rahman George, Sporshia, Titash Zia, Afroza Banu, Shatabdi Wadud and many others. Bashar Georgis is directing the second season, and Rafikul Islam Poltu and Shubhashish Sinha has written it.
Ujan Ganger Naiya, produced by BBC Media Action Bangladesh, is a part of the BBC Agomoni project, which was made with funds from the UK Department for International Development..
