State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury has said there is no fertilizer shortage in the country and instructed relevant authorities to strengthen monitoring to ensure proper distribution among farmers.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at Jamalpur district’s monthly law-and-order coordination meeting held at the deputy commissioner’s conference room on Sunday. Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Mohammad Yusuf Ali chaired the meeting.
The state minister said: “It is important to ensure timely supply of fertilizer according to farmers’ needs. Relevant authorities must remain alert so that there is no irregularity in the distribution system or creation of an artificial shortage.”
He said: “The government has kept adequate fertilizer stocks to maintain agricultural production and protect farmers’ interests. Therefore, there is no reason to be concerned about a fertilizer shortage.”
On the law-and-order situation, Yasser Khan Choudhury said: “Necessary manpower and vehicles will be provided in phases to increase the capacity of law enforcement agencies and improve the law-and-order situation.”
He said: “Drugs are one of the main causes of rising crime in society and a major obstacle to any development. Therefore, everyone must work together to control drugs.”
The state minister instructed authorities to form committees at the grassroots level, if necessary, to assist law enforcement agencies in combating drugs.
He said: “The administration, law enforcement agencies and ordinary people must come forward collectively to eliminate drugs from society.”
Imranul Hasan, public relations officer at the Ministry of Information, said local members of parliament Advocate Shah Md Wares Ali Mamun, A E Sultan Mahmud Babu, Md Faridul Kabir Talukder and Md Mustafizur Rahman Babul, and Jamalpur District Council Administrator Sirajul Haque, among other officials, spoke at the meeting.
The meeting discussed the overall law-and-order situation in the district, drug control, strengthening the capacity of law enforcement agencies, and the supply and distribution of agricultural inputs, particularly fertilizer.
