A gas cylinder of a fish-carrying refrigerated truck exploded in the capital’s Gabtoli area on Saturday night, killing a 25-year-old man and injuring the driver.

The deceased was identified as Imran Hossain, son of Sarwar Molla of Lohagara upazila in Narail.

Imran and the driver, Md Faruk Hossain, 40, were repairing the refrigerated truck and refilling its gas in front of a refrigerator shop near Dipnagar fish market, said Imran’s cousin Sabuj.

The gas cylinder suddenly exploded around 8:00pm, leaving Imran and Faruk injured.

They were initially taken to a local hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition.

Doctors declared Imran dead around 11:00pm, while Faruk is undergoing treatment at the hospital, said Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp.
