Nasirnagar attacks: 8 placed on 3-day remand

Update : 07 Nov 2016, 07:08 PM
“We hope that during the remand the detainees will give us information about the outsiders who took part in the attacks," said Nasirnagar OC Ab Zafar. ""With the help of this information, we will be able to arrest the other culprits.” A total of 74 people have been arrested in connection to the attacks on the Hindu community in the upazila, when a mob vandalised at least 10 temples and ransacked hundreds of Hindu homesteads on Oct 30 over a Facebook post which appeared on the timeline of a local Hindu youth. More than 100 people were injured in the attacks, which the victims blamed on local influential people. The ruling Awami League has suspended three of its Nasirnagar unit leaders for their involvement. “We produced eleven detainees before the court with a five-day remand plea. The Judge placed eight of them on three-day remands each after conducting the hearing,” SI Sadhan Kanti Chowdhury, also the investigation Officer of the case, told the Dhaka Tribune on Monday afternoon.
