Two suspected robbers killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

The gunfight took place on Friday midnight while the robbers were preparing to block a regional highway with logs. The robbers could not be identified immediately. Mirpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Jalal Uddin Ahmed said: “After being tipped off about the robbery preparation, police rushed to the spot. Sensing police presence, the robbers opened fire and hurled bombs at police.” “In retaliation, police also opened fire, leaving two robbers dead on the spot while their cohorts managed to flee the scene,” the OC added. Assistant Police Superintendent (Bheramara Circle) Kamrul Hasan said: “Three cops including OC Jalal were also injured in the gunfight. Later a pistol, four bombs and few sharp weapons were recovered from the spot.”
