Cyclone Kyant moving slightly west

The cyclone was centred about 645km south-southwest of Chittagong port, 575km south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 640km south of Mongla Port and 590km south of Payra port till 6am. It is likely to intensify further and move in a west-southwesterly direction, said a Met office bulletin. Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra ports have been advised to keep hoisted distant warning signal No 2.
All fishing boats and trawlers over north-bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
Cyclonic Storm Kyant will unleash heavy rain and strong winds on areas from western Myanmar to northeast India and Bangladesh this week, said accuweather. The newly formed storm will continue to track westward through Wednesday, moving farther into the open Bay of Bengal but toward eastern India. Rain could begin to fall in areas from Kolkata and southern Bangladesh and southward to Puri as early as Wednesday, even as the centre of the tropical system remains well to the south. The worst conditions are expected from Friday into Saturday as the storm approaches the coast of India between Visakhapatnam and Chennai. Locally damaging winds will be possible with gusts over 80 km/h (50 mph) within 120 km (75 mi) of where the storm makes landfall.
