Recalling the early days of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan has said the Father of the Nation had been vocal against injustice even when he was merely a schoolboy.
The UGC chief, as the guest speaker, was addressing a programme titled “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib: Ekjon Protibadi Manusher Protikriti” in Dhaka on Saturday, which was chaired by eminent historian Professor Muntasir Mamoon.
Abdul Mannan said: “Bangabandhu did not wait until his university life to protest any injustice. He had raised his voice during the non-cooperation movement against the British rule, when he was only at school in Tungipara, Gopalganj.”
“During his college days in Kolkata, Bangabandhu was actively involved in forming a student organisation,” said Abdul Mannan, adding, aiming to save the lives of innocent people, Bangabandhu also voluntarily worked during the Direct Action Day, on August 16 in 1946, when a massive Muslim-Hindu riot had sparked in Kolkata.”
