Suhrawadi Shuvo has been hospitalised after he got struck on the lower right side of his neck while trying to duck into a Taskin Ahmed bouncer during a Dhaka Premier League match in Mirpur on Saturday.
BCB’s chief physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury said he is going to have a scan at the Apollo Hospitals but he was in stable condition. He said Shuvo wasn’t wearing the helmet with new safety regulations.
“He is stable now but as with any head injuries, they will observe him for at least 24 hours,” Debashish told. “Once we know his scan results, we will be able to understand his condition better. It would have helped if he was wearing the helmet with new safety regulations, but he wasn’t.”
Shuvo was batting on 21 in the 25th over when Taskin bowled him the bouncer which didn’t rise as much as Shuvo would have hoped, it seemed. He kept his eyes on the ball but couldn’t move out of the path of the ball.
The Abahani players rushed to him seeing him fall at the crease. Shuvo was covering his eyes with his hand at the time.
“We make four instant tests in such a situation. He passed three of those but he didn’t respond when we put light on his eyes. This is of some concern,” said Debashish.
He was rushed to the hospital, located roughly 12km from the stadium, with Victoria team staff as well as the BCB physician Monirul Amin.
