Update : 20 Oct 2016, 01:19 PM
The "gunfight" took place in Poranpur area of Damurhuda early Thursday. The deceased are Shakil, 23, son of Abdul Kader Mondol of the same upazila and Sobuj, 24, son of late Khabir Uddin of Sadar upazila. They were accused of abducting and killing schoolboy Sajib. RAB 6 Deputy Director Major Monir Ahmed said: “Four men opened fire at a RAB patrol team when the elite force challenged them around 3am on Thursday." In retaliation, RAB officials fired back that left the two injured. They were declared dead when taken to Damurhuda Upazila Health Complex. Two RAB personnel were also injured in the incident. "Two firearms, four bullets and two sharp weapons were recovered from the spot. We later realised that the duo were accused in the Sajib murder case,” he said. The miscreants had previously abducted Class XIII student Mahfuz Alam Sajib on July 29 and demanded Tk20 lakh in ransom. Later, Sajib’s decomposed body was recovered from a septic tank in the district town on August 31. The prime accused in the murder case, local UP member Rakibul, was killed in another "gunfight" with RAB last month.
