Canadian high commissioner praises Bangladesh's role in climate change

Outgoing Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Benoît-Pierre Laramée has lauded Bangladesh's pioneering role in migration, climate change, women empowerment, socio-economic development, peacekeeping and peacebuilding. He dubbed Bangladeshi people "very friendly" and thanked Dhaka for supporting and cooperating with his initiatives for strengthening the bilateral ties between the two countries. Laramée made a farewell call on Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali at the State Guest House Padma Sunday afternoon. He also praised Bangladesh for extending humanitarian assistance to the Rohingya people. The high commissioner also spoke highly of Bangladesh's leading role in the Global Forum on Migration and Development and in the Inter-Parliamentary Union. Foreign Minister Ali congratulated the outgoing high commissioner for his successful tour of duty in Bangladesh. He expressed faith in the strong relationship between Bangladesh and Canada. Minister Ali also conveyed gratitude, on behalf of Bangladesh and its people, to the Canadian government and its people for their steadfast support in the development strides of Bangladesh. He emphasised that Canada is a time-tested friend of Bangladesh and the spirit of partnership would continue to flourish in the coming days.
