Dr Mahendra P Lama, Professor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, India said sustainable energy can be achieved for all of South Asia by following five models of cooperation at the Ninth South Asia Economic Summit held at the La Meridian hotel.
The five proposed models are Bilateral, sub-regional, regional, local integration and wheeling facility.
India has already taken an initiative to produce 10000MW electricity by 2020 in Bhutan.
He suggested that these types of bilateral initiatives can also be taken by others countries to strengthen cross border ties with bilateral cooperation.
Establishing transmission lines in different countries like Thailand, Combodia, China, Vietnam can open the door to exchanging electricity between many countries is a good example of sub-regional cooperation.
In the case of regional cooperation, Nepal India China Tri-Junction Power Development Fund can be established to get electricity used for transmission to others countries in this region.
Local integration can be achieved by a country which produces more electricity locally can ensure high growth leading to a robust economy through development dynamics transformation.
