The deceased is Aktarul alias British, 30, son of Shamsul Haq of Barbaria village of same upazila.
Mirpur OC Kazi Helal Uddin said: “Acting on a tip-off, we raided the area early Wednesday. The robbers were preparing for a robbery.”
He said: “The robbers opened fire at the police officials.”
In retaliation, police fired back that left one of the robbers bullet wounded.
Doctors declared Aktarul dead when taken to Mirpur Health Complex, the OC added.
He said: “Aktarul was wanted in four cases including murder and robbery.”
