The government has announced Tk2 lakh for each of the families that lost a member in the explosion at a packaging factory in Tongi Saturday morning.
State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu made the announcement in the afternoon.
He said: "The families of the deceased will get Tk200,000 each as compensation from the Workers' Welfare Foundation.”
Earlier in the day, while visiting the injured at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Joint Secretary of the Director of Labour SM Ashrafuzzaman, said: “The injured will avail Tk100,000 from the labour welfare fund.”
Gazipur district administration has also announced that bereaved families would get Tk20,000 each for the last rites of the deceased while Tk10,000 will be paid to those injured, according to Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Helal Uddin.
At least 24 people have been killed and more than 50 people injured in the explosion.
The explosion triggered a massive fire and led to the collapse of the three-storey factory building of Tampaco Foils Ltd in the BISIC industrial area in Gazipur on Saturday morning.
