The voter list updating drive will begin today and continue till August 9 across Bangladesh.
The Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda will inaugurate the voter list update programme in Mymensingh.
Election Commission Secretary Mohammad Abdullah said those turning 18-years-old on January 1, 2018 and those who are now eligible to vote, will be included in the updated list, which is expected to include over 3,500,000 new voters.
Those whose information were collected but was unfortunately excluded in 2015 voter list will also be included this time around.
People who changed their location during the process will have to fill up a specific form provided by Election Commission with their new address. They will also have to submit necessary documents to their respective thana’s Election Office where they want to be a voter.
The EC secretary said they have updated the list with all the deceased since 2015.
According to the voter list update schedule, they will first collect data door to door from July 25 to August 9.
Then this data will be digitised in registration centres in 517 upazilas till August 20. In the third and final phase biometric data and photos will be collected from August 20 till November 5.
The deadline for getting any information changed with objection and amendment forms is January 17, 2018.
By January 22 all information changes must be settled by the EC and the voter list will be finalised on January 31. A draft of the list will be published on January 2018.
The total budget allocated for this herculean task is Tk41.30cr this year, said an official from the budget and finance department of the EC.
According to EC officials currently there are around 101,843,667 voters in Bangladesh.
