Ranada Prasad medal awarded to 3 eminent citizens

Three renowned Bangladeshi citizens – poet Sufia Kamal (posthumously), Abdullah Abu Sayeed and Shykh Seraj have been awarded the Ranada Prasad Gold Medal 2016 for their contribution to the fields of women's rights movement, education and agricultural development, respectively. The posthumous award to Sufia Kamal was received by Advocate Sultana Kamal. The prestigious award ceremony was held at Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad auditorium of Bangla Academy in Dhaka on Saturday. Organised by Kumudini Welfare Trust, the ceremony was chaired by Professor Emiratus Anisuzzaman. Commemorative speech was delivered by educationist Syed Anwar Hossain. adviser to the Trust, while Prof MA Jalil delivered the welcome speech. The event was also attended by Brac Chairperson Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, former Bharateshwari Homes principal Protiva Mutsuddi, Bangla Academy Director General Dr Shamsuzzaman Khan, Impress Telefilm Ltd and Channel i Managing Director Faridur Reza Sagar and other dignified personalities. Ranada Prasad Saha, founder of Kumudini Hospital and Bharateshwari Homes at Mirzapur in Tangail, was picked up by the Pakistan occupation forces on May 7, 1971, during Bangladesh’s Liberation War. He never returned. The Trust introduced the award last year.
