Businessman Sheikh Nur Islam has denied owning the recently sealed TOS Bond Private Limited and objected to being described as “Salman’s father-in-law” in news coverage of content creator Salman Muqtadir’s activities.
However, the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) says Sheikh Nur Islam owns the warehouse. On Saturday afternoon, Md Mehedi Hasan, Assistant Director of the DNC’s Dhaka Metro (North) office, confirmed to Dhaka Tribune that the TOS Bond warehouse is owned by Sheikh Nur Islam.
The written protest and clarification was sent on Saturday on his behalf, signed by Mohammad Foyzul Karim, Head of Operations at Fu-Wang Bowling and Services Limited.
The letter says Sheikh Nur Islam and his family never accepted the marriage of his daughter Disha Islam to Salman Muqtadir, and that all social and family ties with those concerned have been completely severed since the marriage.
In this situation, the letter calls it “undesirable, untrue and highly indecent” to link Sheikh Nur Islam’s name to Salman Muqtadir’s personal, social, business or other activities by presenting him as “Salman’s father-in-law” in news reports, headlines, videos, thumbnails or social media posts.
Regarding the sealing of the TOS Bond warehouse, the letter says presenting it as Sheikh Nur Islam’s establishment is “completely false and fabricated.” It claims that neither he nor his family has any direct or indirect connection to it, and that linking them to any incident, activity or allegation involving the company is contrary to the facts.
Describing his businesses, the letter says that in Bangladesh he has no liquor bar, warehouse or diplomatic bonded house other than Fu-Wang Bowling and Services Limited. Apart from that, he has restaurant and agriculture-based businesses in the country.
The letter adds that Sheikh Nur Islam has lived in Canada for 46 years and is a Canadian citizen. His 2 daughters, Disha Islam and Barsha Islam, are Canadian citizens by birth.
It claims he runs and expands his businesses in Bangladesh using remittances sent through proper channels from the income of his legitimate business in Canada.
On Thursday night, a team led by the DNC, together with the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate and the Special Response Battalion (SRB), raided a bonded warehouse called TOS Bond Private Limited in Gulshan. The warehouse was sealed during the raid.
The DNC announced the raid in a press release the next morning, Friday. The warehouse’s owner is Nur Islam, and the report named him as owner based on information he himself provided.
Sheikh Nur Islam’s side has now denied that ownership information.
The protest letter also mentions the marriage of his daughter Disha Islam to Salman Muqtadir. However, it says he and his family did not accept the marriage and that social and family ties have been cut since then.
