Dhaka Tribune journalist Shaikh Shahrukh Farhan has been selected for the 2026 Climate Change Media Partnership (CCMP) Reporting Fellowship to cover the 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31) in Antalya, Türkiye, from November 9 to 20.

Shahrukh is among 14 journalists and two independent creator-journalists selected from Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and the Pacific through an international selection process.

The fellowship is jointly organized by the Earth Journalism Network (EJN), Informed Earth and the Stanley Center for Peace and Security.

Under the program, the selected journalists will report directly from the UN climate negotiations, covering international climate policy and its implications for audiences in their respective countries.

For Bangladesh, Shahrukh’s reporting is expected to focus on the implications of COP31 negotiations for a country facing climate-related challenges, including rising temperatures, extreme weather, sea-level rise and coastal erosion.

The fellowship will enable participants to cover negotiations and developments involving climate finance, infrastructure, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, mitigation and adaptation.

Participants will also receive professional guidance from journalists and media trainers Joydeep Gupta, Fermín Koop and Imelda Abaño.

The program brings together journalists from 15 countries, providing opportunities to exchange reporting experiences and strengthen their understanding of international climate negotiations.

Other selected fellows include Anandabhuwana from Indonesia, Angelica Maria Daza Romero from Colombia, Aparna Bose from India, Aria Deemie from Liberia, Hammad S from Pakistan, Lerato Mutsila from South Africa, María de los Ángeles Graterol Camacho from Venezuela, Maria Vasileva Petrova-Galabova from Bulgaria, Nadia Luna from Argentina, Nathalie Iriarte Villavicencio from Bolivia, Nkoli Omhoudu from Nigeria, Noel Charles Piringi from Solomon Islands, Francis Ontomwa from Kenya and Zenebe Hailu Gemechu from Ethiopia.

Shahrukh has more than 12 years of experience in journalism, covering public policy, governance, climate change, environmental protection, energy, ICT and telecommunications, elections, migration, women and children, and sustainable development.

His reporting interests include climate adaptation, renewable energy, energy security, environmental pollution, biodiversity conservation, climate finance and issues affecting climate-vulnerable communities.

COP31, the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, is scheduled to take place in Antalya from November 9 to 20.

The conference will bring together government representatives, international organizations, researchers, civil society groups and other stakeholders for negotiations on global climate action.

Key issues expected to feature in reporting from the conference include countries’ climate commitments, progress on previous agreements, climate finance, mitigation and adaptation.
