The blockade in Khilkhet triggered severe traffic congestion as drivers demanded an end to the gas crisis

Update : 22 Jul 2026, 04:31 PM

CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers blocked airport road in Dhaka's Khilkhet area on Wednesday afternoon, protesting the ongoing gas shortage and causing severe traffic congestion.

The blockade began around 2:40pm as drivers demanded an immediate solution to the gas crisis.

Monir Hossain, a protesting driver, said they had been waiting in line since morning but were unable to refill gas.

"The lack of gas is affecting our daily income and making it difficult to cover vehicle deposits and other expenses. Most of the day is spent just trying to collect gas," he said.

Witnesses said around 100 CNG drivers gathered on the road, chanting slogans and demanding an immediate resolution to the shortage.

Sub-Inspector Abul Hossain of Khilkhet Police Station said police were at the scene to keep the situation under control.

"The CNG drivers have blocked the road due to the gas shortage. Police are working to maintain order," he said.
