Algerian Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Abdelouahab Saïdani distributed relief supplies among flood-affected and vulnerable families in Chittagong’s Satkania and Cox's Bazar's Matarbari on Saturday, demonstrating Algeria's solidarity with communities hit by recent floods.

The relief distribution programme began at around 11:30am at Keochia Muzaherul Haque Islamia Dakhil Madrasa in Keochia Union of Satkania Upazila, where the ambassador personally handed over relief bags containing essential supplies to affected families.

Expressing sympathy for the victims, Ambassador Saïdani underscored the importance of supporting vulnerable communities during natural disasters and humanitarian crises.

Local representatives said he was among the first foreign ambassadors to personally visit the flood-hit areas and distribute relief directly to affected families. They also noted that this was the first time a foreign diplomat had visited Satkania to provide humanitarian assistance, describing the visit as a significant and encouraging gesture for the local community.

Residents expressed gratitude for the ambassador's initiative, saying the assistance would help them meet urgent needs and recover from the hardships caused by the flooding.

The humanitarian effort reflected the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and Algeria and highlighted Algeria's continued support for communities affected by natural disasters. The programmes concluded with a message of compassion, solidarity and continued assistance for flood victims in Satkania and Matarbari.
