The electricity tariff at the consumer level has been increased by up to Tk1.52 per kilowatt-hour (unit), raising the rate from Tk9.11 to Tk10.63 per unit.
The new tariff will take effect from the June billing cycle.
The announcement was made by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) at a press conference on Wednesday.
The wholesale electricity tariff has also been increased by Tk1.39 per unit to Tk8.39.
At the same time, the transmission charge has been raised from Tk0.3135 to Tk0.3886 per unit, an increase of Tk0.0751.
Earlier, BERC held a two-day public hearing on April 20 and 21 over proposals to increase electricity prices.
During the hearing, the country's six power distribution companies proposed raising tariffs by between Tk0.85 and Tk2.05 per unit.
Under the proposals, the Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) sought an increase of Tk0.85 per unit, the Rural Electrification Board (REB) Tk1.77, Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) Tk1.54, Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO) Tk1.98, West Zone Power Distribution Company (WZPDCL) Tk1.39, and Northern Electricity Supply Company (NESCO) Tk2.05 per unit.
