The pressure of Eid holiday travel has increased on the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge highway, leading to long queues of vehicles in some areas.

A total of 56,239 vehicles crossed the Jamuna Bridge in the 24 hours between midnight Monday and midnight Tuesday, generating toll revenue of Tk3.82 crore.

Syed Riaz Uddin, executive engineer of the Jamuna Bridge Site Office, confirmed the information on Wednesday morning.

According to the Jamuna Bridge Authority, 36,426 northbound vehicles crossed the bridge during the period, generating tolls amounting to Tk2.21 crore.

Meanwhile, 19,813 Dhaka-bound vehicles crossed the bridge, with toll collection from those vehicles reaching Tk1.61 crore.

Riaz Uddin said vehicles were crossing the bridge through nine toll booths on both sides during the Eid rush.

“Motorcycles are using two separate booths. We are also trying to introduce round-the-clock toll collection,” he said.

Authorities have been collecting tolls on the bridge since its inauguration in 1998.

Previously, toll collection was managed by the Commuter System Network (CNS). Since late 2012, the responsibility has been handled by China Road and Bridge Corporation.
