Five killed in Faridpur road crash

The accident took place at around 10:45 am near Shankarpasha Bazar under Dangi union

Five people, including four members of the same family, were killed on Sunday morning when a Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) passenger bus collided head-on with an ambulance on the Dhaka–Barisal highway in Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur.

The accident took place at around 10:45 AM near Shankarpasha Bazar under Dangi union.

According to police and local sources, four members of a family from Madaripur were traveling to Faridpur in an ambulance to accompany a sick relative for medical treatment. On the way, a Dhaka-bound BRTC bus reportedly attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided head-on with the oncoming ambulance, causing it to overturn. All four family members and the ambulance driver died on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as Jahangir Molla,62, his wife Majeda Begum, 55, his brother Alamgir Hossain Molla,58, and Alamgir’s wife Khurshid Begum,48. All the victims are the residents of Baliar village under Mostafapur Union in Madaripur Sadar and sons and daughters-in –law of Haji Abdur Wahed Molla. 
The ambulance driver, Kawser Matubbor, 25, son of Shahjahan Matubbor from the Seidarbali area of Madaripur Sadar, was also killed in the accident.

Officer-in-Charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station Helal Uddin said, police rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the news. With assistance from locals, highway police, local police, and fire service personnel conducted rescue operations and recovered all five bodies from the wreckage.

He added that the bodies were later taken to the highway police station for inquest proceedings.

Nagarkanda Police Station Officer-in-Charge Samdani confirmed that both the bus and the ambulance involved in the accident have been seized, and legal proceedings are underway in connection with the incident.
