Marking International Mother’s Day and recognising the sacrifices and contributions of mothers in society, Rtv organised the ‘Rtv Shopnojayi Ma Award 2026’ at the Bengal Multimedia Studio in Tejgaon, Dhaka.
The ceremony honoured mothers of accomplished personalities from different fields with commemorative medals. The event will be broadcast on Rtv Sunday at 7:20pm.
This year’s honourees included Jahanara Begum, mother of actor Shariful Raj; Umme Salma Begum, mother of actress Tanjin Tisha; Jinnatunnesa, mother of Additional IGP Khondkar Rafiqul Islam; Mosha Jamila Bibi, mother of lecturer M A Mottalib Mihir; and Adorini Sarkar, mother of Dr Uttam Kumar Sarkar, Dr Ujjal Kumar Sarkar, lecturer Subarna Sarkar and journalist Protima Sarkar.
The honoured mothers expressed gratitude, saying they had always strived to ensure a better future for their children but never imagined receiving such recognition. They added that their children’s success remains the greatest joy of their lives.
The award recipients’ children, meanwhile, said that among all their achievements, seeing their mothers receive the honour was their proudest and most emotional moment.
Speaking at the event, Syed Ashik Rahman said, “The sweetest word in the Bengali language is ‘mother’. A mother continues to struggle for her child’s success until the very last day of her life. Rtv arranged this programme to pay tribute to all mothers around the world.”
Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury also attended the programme and said, “Nothing compares to a mother. A mother’s contribution behind a child’s success can never truly be repaid.”
Among others present at the ceremony were freedom fighter and musician Linu Billah, dramatist Rahmat Ali, businessman Sahedul Islam Helal and cultural personality Shanta Islam.
