The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has predicted rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary westerly or nor’westers in five divisions, including Dhaka, over the next 12 hours commencing at 8am on Thursday.
“Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary westerly or northwesterly nor’wester storms, with squall speeds of 60–80 km/h or more, are likely to occur at places over Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions during the next 12 hours,” said a Met office bulletin.
The bulletin added that lightning and hail may occur at isolated places along with the nor’westers.
According to the regular Met office update, rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning flashes are likely at a few places over Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions, and at one or two places over Rajshahi division, with hail at isolated locations.
Day temperatures may fall by 1–2°C, while night temperatures may drop slightly across the country.
A trough of low pressure lies over West Bengal and adjoining areas, while the seasonal low lies over the South Bay.
