In a bid to support the government’s electricity and fuel-saving efforts amid the global energy crisis, all shops, commercial establishments, and shopping malls across Bangladesh will now close by 8pm.
The decision was announced on Thursday by the Bangladesh Shop Owners’ Association through a press release.
It was made during a joint meeting of the Dhaka Metropolitan Shop Owners’ Association and the Standing Committee of the national association.
Under the new rule, all shops, malls, and commercial outlets must shut after 8pm. Hotels, pharmacies, emergency services, and grocery/vegetable markets are exempted.
The association said the measure has been adopted in the interest of both the public and business owners to help conserve electricity and fuel.
