The Bangladesh Government Employees Welfare Association has announced a six-day nationwide program from April 5 to 10, demanding implementation of a new pay scale.
The announcement came in a notice signed by the organisation’s convener Abdul Malek and member secretary Ashiqul Islam on Wednesday.
According to the notice, no new pay scale has been introduced since the eighth pay scale was implemented in 2015. During this period, the cost of living—including prices of essential commodities, housing, healthcare, education, gas, water, and electricity—has risen significantly, eroding the purchasing power of government officials and employees.
Leaders of the organisation said the prompt implementation of the ninth pay scale is crucial under current economic conditions. They also demanded that adequate allocation be included in the upcoming 2026–27 national budget to facilitate its implementation.
As part of the program, memorandums will be submitted to the prime minister through deputy commissioners in all districts and major cities from April 5 to 9.
On April 10, the association will hold peaceful discussion meetings and representative gatherings at upazila, district, and divisional levels.
The organisation also urged the prime minister to intervene and ensure swift implementation of the ninth pay scale, in line with commitments made in the election manifesto.
