Moncho 24 has issued six demands, including ensuring safe road and waterway transport, warning that it will launch a “Safe Transport Movement” with public participation if the demands are not implemented promptly.

The demands were presented on Friday at a press conference held in front of Madhur Canteen at the University of Dhaka by the organization’s convener Fahim Faruqi.

In a written statement, he said that extreme mismanagement of the country’s transport system has led to one tragic accident after another. He cited over 20 major accidents in recent times, including in Daulatdia and other areas, resulting in numerous deaths. Faruqi stressed that these incidents are not mere accidents but the outcome of negligence and irresponsibility.

He also criticized the government for providing only Tk 25,000 in financial aid to the families of victims, calling it insufficient, and urged coordinated and humane initiatives to support affected families.

Regarding the Hadi murder case, Faruqi said that although the arrest of the killers is a positive step, there has been no visible progress in bringing them back to the country quickly to ensure justice.

At the press conference, the organization’s adviser Lt Col Ferdous Aziz called the suspects’ crossing of the border a staged “drama”. He added that even if the current government is not directly responsible, it is obligated to ensure the return of the suspects and conduct proper trials.

Among their demands are the return of the suspects in the Hadi murder case within 15 working days and ensuring justice, formation of an independent high-level judicial investigation commission, identification and arrest of those who assisted the suspects in crossing the border, and creation of a special legal expert cell to avoid delays in India under the UAPA law.

The organization also demanded a visible roadmap or progress report within 15 working days for the repatriation of the suspects.
