Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday exchanged greetings with journalist Anis Alamgir over phone on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Fitr and sought his cooperation in nation-building efforts.

Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Anis Alamgir confirmed the development, saying, “I was initially surprised when the prime minister called me on Saturday evening. We later had a detailed discussion. I conveyed that I would support the government’s positive initiatives while also offering constructive criticism.”

He praised the prime minister and the president for offering Eid prayers together at the National Eidgah and stated that it reflects a spirit of harmony in Bangladesh, which was not evident during the tenure of Dr Yunus.

On the night of December 14, a team from the Detective Branch (DB) of police took Anis Alamgir into custody for questioning, stating that he was being brought to the DB office for interrogation.

Later that same night, Aryan Ahmed, a member of an organisation called the “July Revolutionary Alliance,” filed a case against Anis Alamgir and four others under the Anti-Terrorism Act, accusing them of conspiring to destabilise the state and inciting a banned organisation.

The following day, December 15, Anis Alamgir was arrested in connection with the Anti-Terrorism Act case filed with Uttara West Police Station. He was subsequently placed on a five-day remand and later sent to jail after the remand period ended.

On March 5, the High Court granted bail to Anis Alamgir in the Anti-Terrorism Act case.
