The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has implemented a multi-layered, strict security system centered around the main Eid-ul-Fitr congregation at the National Eidgah Maidan in the capital.
On Thursday morning (March 19), Acting DMP Commissioner Md Sarwar inspected the National Eidgah.
He informed journalists that for Eid-ul-Fitr in Dhaka, a total of 1,720 congregations (jamaats) will be held across 121 Eidgahs and 1,599 mosques.
He stated: "There are no security threats surrounding Eid, but the highest level of preparation has been taken."
The main jamaat at the National Eidgah will take place at 8:30 AM, with more than 35,000 devotees expected to participate.
Additionally, Baitul Mukarram National Mosque will hold five consecutive prayer sessions starting from 7:00 AM, while another major congregation organized by the Dhaka North City Corporation will take place at the old trade fair ground in Agargaon.
To maintain security, archways and metal detectors will be installed at entry gates, and the National Eidgah and its surrounding areas will be under constant CCTV monitoring.
Vehicle movement will be restricted through barricades at three major points—Matsya Bhaban, the Press Club, and Shikhsha Bhaban—requiring devotees to enter the Eidgah on foot.
Extensive police patrolling will be in effect, supported by Special Branch sweeping teams as well as members of the DB, SWAT, and medical emergency units from the fire service.
The Commissioner urged all citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security personnel during searches.
He advised the public to use only designated entry gates and encouraged anyone who notices suspicious activity to immediately report it by calling the emergency number 999.
Traffic diversions will also be in place at various crossings to manage the flow of people during the holiday.
