A Jahangirnagar University student was found dead in his dormitory room at Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq Hall on Wednesday, amid the ongoing Eid vacation.
The deceased, Arup Ratan Konisk, 50th-batch Archaeology student from Narayanganj, was staying alone in room 413, as other residents had left for the holidays.
Around 2pm., fellow students, failing to get a response at his door, broke a window and discovered him hanging. The door was subsequently forced open, confirming his death.
Provost Professor Dr. Md Nazrul Islam said: “Around 2:10pm., I went to his room and found him hanging.” University Proctor Professor AKM Rashidul Alam added that authorities rushed to the scene and a preliminary investigation was underway.
Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rubel Hawladar said the body was recovered and sent for autopsy. “Initially, we suspect death by suicide, but the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy.”
