Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has expressed deep concern over the murder of Jahangirnagar University student Sharmin Jahan Khadija and demanded a fair, neutral, and swift investigation to uncover the truth behind the incident.
In a statement issued on Monday, TIB urged the university administration and relevant law enforcement agencies to conduct a transparent investigation and bring those responsible to justice through exemplary punishment.
Sharmin Jahan Khadija, a student of the Public Administration department at Jahangirnagar University, was also the deputy leader of the university’s Youth Engagement and Support (YES) Group.
According to the statement, she was murdered on Sunday in the Islamnagar area near the university campus. The incident has caused deep concern among members of the JU YES Group.
TIB said the murder must be investigated with utmost seriousness and that authorities should prioritise uncovering the facts behind the killing.
Sharmin had been an active member of the JU YES Group since December 8, 2025, and played a notable role in social movements against corruption. She was elected deputy leader of the group on January 27, 2026.
A student of the 2021–2022 academic session, she was also involved in various social and voluntary organisations.
“TIB family is deeply saddened by her untimely and tragic death,” the organisation said, reiterating its demand that the investigation be given the highest priority to ensure justice through a transparent process.
