Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir has issued a strong message to field-level police officers to adopt a “zero tolerance” policy against extortion
He directed strict measures to curb snatching, extortion, and drug-related crimes.
The IGP gave these instructions during a law and order meeting held virtually from Police Headquarters on Monday with Superintendents of Police (SPs) of all districts.
He emphasized that extortion, snatching, and robbery on highways must be stopped. In this regard, he instructed both the Highway Police and District Police to intensify their operations and patrols on highways.
Ahead of the upcoming Eid, the police chief also directed officials to ensure safe and smooth travel for homebound passengers.
He stressed the need for effective measures to prevent traffic congestion and to ensure that travellers can reach their destinations and return safely.
The IGP further instructed police members to behave well with citizens seeking services at police stations, so that people can leave with satisfaction.
He urged officers to enhance the image of Bangladesh Police by building public trust through courteous conduct. He also warned that innocent people must not be harassed under any circumstances.
He called upon district Superintendents of Police to work in unity to build a safer Bangladesh.
Additional inspector generals and other concerned officials from Police Headquarters were present at the meeting.
