Phased sales, separate zonal schedules and 20 special trains planned to ease holiday rush

Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, Bangladesh Railway has taken additional measures to manage the rush of homebound passengers.

Advance ticket sales for the Eid journey will begin on March 3.

To reduce passenger suffering, all seats will once again be sold online this year.

On Tuesday, railway authorities announced that advance ticket sales for Eid will be conducted in phases. Tickets for return journeys will go on sale starting March 23, allowing passengers to plan both their departure and return trips more conveniently.

According to the railway’s decision, tickets for trains operating in the western and eastern zones will be released at different times. Tickets for intercity trains in the western zone will be available online in the morning, while tickets for eastern zone trains will be released in the afternoon. The authorities hope that this will reduce pressure on the server and alleviate some of the inconvenience caused by simultaneous logins.

To meet the increased passenger demand during Eid, plans are in place to operate 20 special trains in addition to regular intercity services. With these special trains added, the total number of available seats will increase significantly.

Every year before Eid, there is intense competition for train tickets. As the decision to sell 100% of tickets online remains in place, there will be no counter-based ticket sales this time either. Therefore, railway authorities have advised passengers to be prepared online ahead of the scheduled ticket release times.
