Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that some changes will be made at the top levels of the police administration.
In response to a question about whether major changes in the police’s top leadership would take place soon or be delayed, the minister said, ‘Yes, some changes will definitely come.’
He made the remarks on Sunday while speaking to journalists after a meeting held at the Secretariat, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The minister also said that discussions were held on Sunday regarding when Parliament might sit. He explained that according to the President’s proclamation convening a parliamentary session, the notice must be issued at least 15 days before the session begins. The summary will go from the National Parliament Secretariat to the Prime Minister’s Office and then to the President. Upon approval, the President will convene the session in consultation with the Prime Minister.
Accordingly, it has been decided that Parliament will be convened on March 12. Discussions were also held about the agenda and order of the day for that session.
During the session, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be elected. Ordinances issued during the tenure of the interim government will be placed before the House. A condolence motion will be adopted as per tradition, and the President will deliver a speech. Other regular parliamentary business will also be conducted, the Home Minister said.
When asked whether there had been any discussion about electing a new President, he replied that no such discussion had taken place yet. He also noted that the Speaker and Deputy Speaker would be finalized later.
