Nov 20, 1965 – Born in Bogra to Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia.

1980s – Studies at BAF Shaheen College; enrolls in International Relations at Dhaka University.

1986 – Defies house arrest to speak at Dhaka Press Club against Ershad’s staged election.

1988 – Joins BNP as a grassroots member in Gabtali, Bogura.

1991 – Campaigns nationwide with Khaleda Zia; BNP wins election, Khaleda becomes PM.

1993 – Introduces secret-ballot leadership elections in BNP’s Bogura unit.

Feb 3, 1994 – Marries Dr Zubaida Rahman.

2001 – Plays key role in BNP’s election strategy; BNP returns to power.

June 2002 – Appointed BNP Senior Joint Secretary General.

2001–2006 – Operates from Banani’s Hawa Bhaban, accused of wielding informal power.

Jan 11, 2007 – Military-backed caretaker government takes power under state of emergency.
