Ten successful persons with disabilities to receive awards

This year’s UN-declared theme is: 'Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress'

Ten successful persons with disabilities will be honoured with awards on the 34th International Day of Persons with Disabilities and the 27th National Disability Day, observed across the country, including Dhaka, on December 3.

The awards, presented in five categories, will recognize the achievements of persons with disabilities, as well as the contributions of individuals and organizations working on disability inclusion.

This year’s UN-declared theme is: “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress."

These details were shared in a press release issued by the Ministry of Social Welfare on Thursday.

According to the press release, awards will be given in five categories: 10 successful persons with disabilities, three individuals working on disability inclusion, three organizations working on disability inclusion, two parents of successful persons with disabilities, and two caregivers.

Sharmeen S Murshid, adviser to the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, will inaugurate the national event on December 3 as the chief guest.

The program will be chaired by Dr Mohammad Abu Yusuf, secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare.

The inauguration will take place at 9:30am at the Jatiyo Protibondhi Unnayan Foundation campus.

To highlight the significance of the day, Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar, and other electronic media will run scrolls featuring this year’s theme.

Mobile phone operators will also send out messages for public awareness, and national newspapers will publish special supplements.

A fair will also be organized. The fair will feature products made by persons with disabilities and serve as a gathering space for them.
