For the first time in Bangladesh, Google’s digital payment platform Google Pay is set to be launched officially.
Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur will inaugurate the service at a hotel in Dhaka.
City Bank is introducing the service in partnership with tech giant Google, with global card networks Mastercard and Visa as collaborators.
City Bank is also the first bank in the country to be directly integrated with Google Pay.
With the launch, Bangladeshi users will be able to make faster, easier, and more secure transactions through the Google Pay app on their smartphones. By simply tapping their phone at any point-of-sale (POS) terminal—either in Bangladesh or abroad—users can make payments without carrying a physical card. Google will not charge any transaction fees.
In the first phase, the service will be available only to City Bank Mastercard and Visa cardholders. Customers will need an Android smartphone, download the Google Pay app from the Play Store, and add their City Bank card. Once added, payments can be made by simply tapping the phone at any store or restaurant.
