The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (Bajus) has increased the price of 22-carat gold by Tk2,192 per bhori, setting the new price at Tk174,528.
Bajus announced the decision in a notice on Saturday, stating that the revised prices would take effect from Sunday.
According to the notice, the price of refined gold (pure gold) in the local market has decreased.
Taking the overall market situation into account, Bajus has set the new rates accordingly.
As per the new prices, each bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold will cost Tk174,528, 21-carat gold will cost Tk166,597, 18-carat gold will cost Tk142,802 and traditional method gold will cost Tk118,168 per bhori.
Bajus also mentioned that buyers must add 5% government-mandated VAT and a minimum 6% Bajus-fixed making charge to the gold price. However, this charge may vary depending on the design and quality of the jewellery.
Prior to this, Bajus last adjusted gold prices on June 5, when the price of 22-carat gold was reduced by Tk2,415 per bhori to Tk172,336.
At that time, the prices were set at Tk164,497 for 21-carat, Tk140,994 for 18-carat and Tk116,640 for traditional method.
This latest revision marks the 38th time gold prices have been adjusted this year—26 times increased and only 12 times decreased.
In 2024, prices were adjusted 62 times in total, with 35 hikes and 27 reductions.
While gold prices have increased, silver prices remain unchanged. According to Bajus, the price per bhori is currently:
- Tk2,811 for 22-carat silver
- Tk2,683 for 21-carat silver
- Tk2,298 for 18-carat silver
- Tk1,726 for traditional method silver
