The government is in the process of bringing 1,519 madrasas under the Monthly Payment Order (MPO) scheme, Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed announced during his budget speech on Monday.
He said the move is part of a broader effort to strengthen and modernise madrasa education across the country.
"The government is implementing extensive programmes for the development of madrasa education. So far, 1,135 madrasa buildings have been completed, and construction is ongoing for 513 multi-storied buildings," he said.
In addition to infrastructure development, 493 madrasas have been equipped with multimedia classrooms to enhance digital learning and make madrasa education more aligned with modern standards.
The finance adviser also proposed an allocation of Tk728 crore for scholarships at the Ibtedayi level and for MPO enlistment of madrasas in the upcoming fiscal year.
Highlighting the importance of technical and vocational education, he said it plays a crucial role in both domestic and international employment opportunities.
“Currently, the enrolment rate in technical education stands at 19%. To raise this significantly, women’s polytechnic and engineering colleges are being established in every division, while polytechnic institutes are being set up at the district level and technical schools at the upazila level,” he added.
